1. Anti-inflammatory
The paleo diet is probably the most anti-inflammatory out there, as it proposes eating quite a few omega 3s and less omega 6s compared to most diets out there. In addition, it only allows for foods that are easy to digest and thus are less likely to cause inflammation. Grains and sugar are quite inflammatory and are definitely not a part of the paleo diet. Inflammation is the root cause of many different health problems and should be avoided at all costs if you want to be healthy. Antioxidants, mentioned below, are also part of eating an anti-inflammatory diet.
2. Vitamins/Minerals
The paleo diet requires a lot of nutrient dense vegetables, fruits, and nuts (nuts are better for some people than others) that provide you with tons of different vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Also eating these things means that they are more likely to absorb than through some supplement. If you are eating good and varied fruits and vegetables, you likely do not need a multivitamin.
3. Acid/Alkaline Balance
Although this can differ based on what you eat, the paleo diet generally leads to a good pH through diet which means the body doesn't have to work as hard to balance the pH level (compared to an acidic modern diet) which can lead to calcium deficiency and several other diseases. Although meat is acidic, it is usually balanced out by all the vegetables in the diet. Avoiding grains is often enough to make sure your body doesn't become too acidic. I will probably make another post just for this topic but here is a good list foracid and alkaline forming foods!
4. Balanced Insulin Levels
Not eating as many carbohydrates and getting many of your calories from fat instead ensures longer lasting energy and reduces spikes in blood sugar. As I have noted in several other posts, insulin spikes, although necessary for controlling blood sugar, wreak havoc on a healthy body by inhibiting other important hormones like leptin (signals satiation) and HSL (which improves body composition by signaling your body to burn fat for energy). Insulin resistance (caused by numerous insulin spikes over time) is a precursor for type 2 diabetes and will often make it impossible for people to lose weight until they get their diet in line and start becoming more sensitive to insulin through diet.
