· Tomatoes:
These babies are considered a fruit in the whole world except in the U.S. The truth is the tomato plant is poisonous but the fruit or berry itself is harmless although you've got to be careful not to eat the stem and it's leaves (but you can still use them in cooking to add flavor to the food) because it contains a chemical called glycoalkaloid that causes nervousness and upset stomach.
· Potatoes
(How cliché can it be, potatoes tomatoes, anyway..) It's confirmed, our preferred starchy meal can give us food poisoning. But not just any old spud, only the green ones. Green areas indicate that there is a high amount of solanine present in the potato that can give nerve toxins. If consumed in significant volumes, it can cause you to feel ill and can possibly cause paralysis of the nervous system.
· Apples:
As the saying goes, "An Apple a day keeps the doctor away" is still a healthy reminder because the white juicy parts are very much edible and will not be a threat to your health, it is still true that an apple contains cyanide in small volumes and you can find it in its seeds. Alright... It’s a bit exaggerating to say that eating all the seeds of an apple can kill you although it's still not advisable, but if a person chewed and consumed enough of it may cause complications. I wonder how many pips were in Snow White's apple to get her poisoned.
· Almonds:
Did you know that almonds are actually seeds? You thought they’re supposed to be nuts right? So have I. Almonds are highly sought after in cooking areas all over the world but also incredibly toxic if not cooked, roasted or processed using some kind of heat. Usually, the bitter almonds contain high level of cyanide so it is necessary to let it go under heat process to eliminate its poison. In some places, promoting these types of seeds is unlawful (like in New Zealand).
· Cherries:
These berries are not poisonous except for its seeds and leaves. Same goes for its berry family, peaches, plum and apricots. If a cherry pip is mashed, chewed or somehow broken, it instantly generates hydrogen cyanide. Signs of gentle harming consist of headache, wooziness, distress, nervousness, and throwing up. High amounts can lead to breathlessness, kidney malfunction, and increased hypertension level and pulse rate. Side effects can consist of coma, withdrawal leading to convulsions, and dying from respiratory problem.
